Introduction: Advances in the study of pain physiology allow nociceptive modulation.
Objective: To evaluate acute pain in patients with dermal burns treated with platelet-rich plasma.
Methods: An experimental study was conducted in patients with dermal burns at the Hospital Manuel Ascunce Domenech, in the period from July 2018 to July 2021. The study universe consisted of 200 patients. The sample was 60 patients, an amount divided into two groups of 30 each. The experimental group consisted of patients treated with platelet-rich plasma, while the conventional group included patients who received occlusive cure treatment with silver sulfadiazine cream 1 %.
Results: From the fifth day on, the value of the visual analog scale was 3,80 in the experimental group and 4,97 in the conventional group, with the Mann-Whitney U test rejecting the equality between the groups (0.001). The behavior was observed from day 10 and 15.
Conclusions: Platelet-rich plasma contributes to the modulation of acute pain in patients with dermal burns and is amenable to be used in conjuntion with other analgesic treatments, forming multimodal therapies.
