Introduction: Complex regional pain syndrome is a chronic disease of severe pain and devastating dysfunction, it occurs between 2 % -5 % of the adult population, as well as in up to 20 % of the pediatric population. It affects women more than men, in a ratio of 3.5:1 in adults and 9:1 in children.
Objective: To determine the incidence of the occurrence of complications during stellate ganglion block under ultrasound.
Methods: A descriptive study, case series, was carried out. 136 patients who underwent stellate ganglion block under ultrasound of the upper limb were included. Variable described was, complications related to the procedure.
Results: The most frequently complications were hoarseness, bradycardia, lipothymia, and hematoma after vascular puncture.
Conclusions: The frequency of complications associated with stellate ganglion block was low, so it can be inferred that it is safe and effective for the treatment of complex regional pain syndrome of the upper limb. The use of ultrasound made local complications minimal.
